What is root canal treatment?
Root canal (endodontics) is required when the nerve supply (pulp tissue) to the problematic tooth is dying or infected through decay or injury.
This is a routine treatment that is typically divided into two or three treatment sessions. The first involves cleaning and shaping the root canals inside to remove bacteria and tooth decay before applying an antibiotic dressing and temporary filling. After leaving the infected tooth to settle for some time, a second visit will be necessary to fill the canals and place a permanent filling.
Why might I need Root Canal Treatment?
Common signs that you may need root canal therapy include the darkening of a tooth after trauma or discomfort caused by the tooth nerve dying or infection.
Your dentist will determine whether you require root canal treatment through a series of special investigations and x-rays. They will discuss all treatment options and procedures with you at the time of your consultation.
Specialist Treatment
At New River Dental, we are fortunate to have a specialist endodontist who can take care of the more complicated root canal treatments and provide the top possible outcome. We accept referrals for root canal treatment from dentists in and around Enfield.
How long will the restored tooth last?
Results are individual and specific, however with the proper care, a good oral hygiene routine and regular examinations to check whether the tooth is sound increases the long-term success rates.
Is Root Canal Treatment comfortable?
It is a common myth that root canal treatment is uncomfortable. All treatments are undertaken with local anaesthetic so that the tooth and surrounding area will be numb.
We always have your comfort at the forefront of our minds.
Is any follow-up treatment required?
Endodontic treatments can leave the remaining tooth vulnerable to further fractures and breakages. Your dentist may recommend that you have a dental crown placed for strength and stability.
